SYT5

Description

The SYT5 (synaptotagmin 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

Synaptotagmin-5 is a protein produced by the SYT5 gene in humans.

Synaptotagmin-5 plays a role in the release of secretory vesicles by binding calcium and phospholipids. It also acts as a calcium sensor in the process of vesicle movement and release. It controls the release of norepinephrine in PC12 cells, a type of nerve cell. Synaptotagmin-5 is needed for molecules to move from the endocytic recycling compartment to the cell surface.

SYT5 is also known as -.
