SYT12

Description

The SYT12 (synaptotagmin 12) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

SYT12 is a synaptic vesicle phosphoprotein that enhances spontaneous neurotransmitter release but does not affect induced neurotransmitter release. Unlike other synaptotagmins, it does not bind calcium or phospholipids. It is essential for mossy-fiber long-term potentiation in the hippocampus.

SYT12 is also known as SYT11, sytXII.
