SYT11

Description

The SYT11 (synaptotagmin 11) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

Synaptotagmin-11 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SYT11 gene. SYT11 has been shown to interact with Parkin (ligase).

Synaptotagmin-11 (SYT11) is a protein involved in vesicular and membrane trafficking. Unlike other synaptotagmins, it does not bind calcium. SYT11 plays a role in inhibiting clathrin-mediated and bulk endocytosis, ensuring precise vesicle retrieval. It is crucial for dopamine transmission by regulating endocytosis and vesicle recycling. SYT11 is a key component of a neuronal vesicular trafficking pathway distinct from the synaptic vesicle trafficking pathway, essential for development and synaptic plasticity. In macrophages and microglia, SYT11 inhibits the secretion of cytokines like IL6 and TNF, as well as phagocytosis. In astrocytes, it regulates lysosome exocytosis, a mechanism important for repairing damaged astrocyte cell membranes. SYT11 is also required for the ATP13A2-mediated regulation of the autophagy-lysosome pathway.

SYT11 is also known as SYT12, sytXI.
