STEAP1

Description

The STEAP1 (STEAP family member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

The STEAP1 gene encodes for the metalloreductase STEAP1 enzyme in humans. It is predominantly expressed in prostate tissue and is found to be upregulated in various cancer cell lines. The protein is predicted to be a six-transmembrane protein and is a cell surface antigen significantly expressed at cell-cell junctions.

STEAP1 lacks the binding sites for NADPH, preventing it from functioning as a metalloreductase. However, when fused to the NADPH-binding domain of STEAP4, it can facilitate Fe(3+) reduction.

STEAP1 is also known as PRSS24, STEAP.
