STARD13

Description

The STARD13 (StAR related lipid transfer domain containing 13) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

STARD13 (StAR-related lipid transfer domain protein 13), also known as DLC-2 (deleted in liver cancer 2 protein), is a protein encoded by the STARD13 gene in humans. It is a member of the DLC family of proteins. STARD13 functions as a Rho GTPase-activating protein (GAP), a type of protein that regulates members of the Rho family of GTPases. Specifically, it activates RhoA and CDC42, suppressing cell growth by inhibiting actin stress fiber assembly. The protein comprises an N-terminal sterile alpha motif (SAM) domain, a serine-rich domain, a RhoGAP domain, and a StAR-related lipid-transfer domain (START) at the C-terminus. STARD13's differential expression in cancers led to its identification. Lower levels of STARD13 were observed in less differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma tissue, accompanied by higher RhoA expression. A small study found that the absence of STARD13 in hepatocellular carcinomas correlates with elevated RhoA levels and a poorer prognosis compared to STARD13-positive carcinomas.

STARD13 is also known as ARHGAP37, DLC2, GT650, LINC00464.
