SSH2


Description

The SSH2 (slingshot protein phosphatase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

SSH2, the gene encoding Protein phosphatase Slingshot homolog 2, is responsible for producing an enzyme involved in regulating actin dynamics. Actin dynamics are controlled by the ADF/cofilin family of proteins, which are inactivated by kinases such as LIMK1. SSH2 plays a role in this process.

SSH2 is a protein phosphatase that regulates actin filament dynamics by dephosphorylating and activating cofilin, which promotes actin disassembly. It also dephosphorylates and inactivates LIMK1, the kinase that phosphorylates and inhibits cofilin. This protein is essential for spermatogenesis and involved in acrosome biogenesis, likely through its regulation of cofilin-mediated actin cytoskeleton remodeling during proacrosomal vesicle fusion and Golgi to perinuclear vesicle trafficking.

SSH2 is also known as SSH-2, SSH-2L.
