SS18

Description

The SS18 (SS18 subunit of BAF chromatin remodeling complex) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

SS18 is a protein encoded by the SS18 gene in humans. It is a member of the human SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex, which is involved in regulating gene expression. SS18 is linked to a specific chromosomal translocation commonly found in synovial sarcoma, a type of cancer.

SS18 protein collaborates with RBM14 to enhance gene transcription. Its two isoforms are involved in activating genes through nuclear receptors and general transcription mechanisms. It is a part of the GBAF subcomplex within the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling system. This subcomplex uses ATP to modify chromatin structure by altering the interactions between DNA and histones within a nucleosome, a fundamental process for regulating gene expression.

SS18 is also known as SMARCL1, SSXT, SYT.
