SRP14

Description

The SRP14 (signal recognition particle 14) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

SRP14, along with SRP9 and the Alu portion of the SRP RNA, forms a complex that arrests protein synthesis until the ribosome reaches the ER. This arrest is crucial for ensuring proper targeting of secretory and membrane proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). SRP14 also plays a key role in binding the SRP RNA, as it forms a heterodimer with SRP9 that specifically interacts with this RNA molecule.

SRP14 is also known as ALURBP.
