SPTBN5

Description

The SPTBN5 (spectrin beta, non-erythrocytic 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

SPTBN5, also known as Spectrin, beta, non-erythrocytic 5, is a protein encoded by the SPTBN5 gene in humans. It belongs to the spectrin family of cytoskeletal proteins. SPTBN5 contains domains for binding to actin, associating with membranes, self-association, and a C-terminal pleckstrin homology domain. These features suggest that SPTBN5 forms heterodimers and oligomers with alpha-spectrin and interacts directly with cell membranes. SPTBN5 is prominently expressed in embryoid bodies.

SPTBN5 is also known as BSPECV, HUBSPECV, HUSPECV.
