SPRED2

Description

The SPRED2 (sprouty related EVH1 domain containing 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

SPRED2 is a protein encoded by the SPRED2 gene in humans. It belongs to the Sprouty/SPRED family of proteins, which regulate the activation of the MAP kinase cascade in response to growth factors.

SPRED2 negatively regulates Ras signaling pathways and the downstream activation of MAP kinases. It facilitates the movement of NF1 to the cell membrane, which allows NF1 to convert active Ras (bound to GTP) into inactive Ras (bound to GDP). SPRED2 also inhibits the differentiation of retinal lens fibers induced by fibroblast growth factor (FGF), potentially by blocking FGF-mediated phosphorylation of ERK1/2. Additionally, SPRED2 inhibits TGF-beta-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in lens epithelial cells.

SPRED2 is also known as NS14, Spred-2.
