SPP1

Description

The SPP1 (secreted phosphoprotein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

SPP1 or SPP-1 refers to Osteopontin, a protein with various functions related to bone formation, cell adhesion, and immune responses.

Osteopontin is a major non-collagenous bone protein that binds strongly to hydroxyapatite, a mineral component of bones and teeth. It appears to be a crucial part of the mineralized matrix and likely plays an important role in the interactions between cells and the surrounding matrix.

SPP1 is also known as BNSP, BSPI, ETA-1, OPN.
