SPINT1

Description

The SPINT1 (serine peptidase inhibitor, Kunitz type 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

SPINT1 is a human gene that encodes a protein belonging to the Kunitz family of serine protease inhibitors. This protein is a potent inhibitor specifically targeting HGF activator, believed to regulate the proteolytic activation of HGF in injured tissues. Alternative splicing of the gene leads to multiple variants encoding different isoforms.

SPINT1 inhibits the activity of HGF activator (HGFAC) (PubMed:9045658). It also inhibits the serine protease activity of ST14/matriptase in vitro (PubMed:28710277) and TMPRSS13 through its BPTI/Kunitz inhibitor 1 domain (PubMed:20977675).

SPINT1 is also known as HAI, HAI1, MANSC2.
