SPANXN1

Description

The SPANXN1 (SPANX family member N1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

SPANX family member N1 is a protein encoded by the SPANXN1 gene in humans. This gene belongs to a family of duplicated genes on chromosome X that play a role in spermiogenesis (the process of sperm cell development). The proteins encoded by this family are considered cancer/testis-associated antigens and might be potential targets for tumor vaccines. This specific family member is present in all primates, rats, and mice, suggesting it is an ancestral member of the family.

SPANXN1 is also known as CT11.6.
