SNX17

Description

The SNX17 (sorting nexin 17) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

SNX17 is a protein encoded by the SNX17 gene in humans. It belongs to the sorting nexin family, which contains a phox (PX) domain that binds phosphoinositides and is involved in intracellular trafficking. Unlike some family members, SNX17 lacks a coiled coil region but possesses a B41 domain. It interacts with the cytoplasmic domain of P-selectin and may function in the intracellular trafficking of P-selectin.

SNX17 is a critical regulator of endosomal recycling of numerous surface proteins, including integrins, signaling receptors and channels. It binds to NPxY sequences in the cytoplasmic tails of target cargos. SNX17 associates with retriever and CCC complexes to prevent lysosomal degradation and promote cell surface recycling of numerous cargos such as integrins ITGB1, ITGB5 and their associated alpha subunits. It is also required for maintenance of normal cell surface levels of APP and LRP1. SNX17 interacts with membranes containing phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PtdIns(3P)).

SNX17 is also known as -.
