SNTB1

Description

The SNTB1 (syntrophin beta 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

Beta-1-syntrophin is a protein encoded by the SNTB1 gene in humans. It is a peripheral membrane protein associated with dystrophin and related proteins. Dystrophin is a crucial cytoskeletal protein found in muscle fibers, and its absence leads to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Beta-1-syntrophin belongs to the syntrophin family, which includes several structurally similar genes.

Beta-1-syntrophin acts as an adapter protein, binding to and organizing the location of various membrane proteins within cells. It potentially connects different receptors to the actin cytoskeleton and the dystrophin glycoprotein complex.

SNTB1 is also known as 59-DAP, A1B, BSYN2, DAPA1B, SNT2, SNT2B1, TIP-43.
