SNRPD3

Description

The SNRPD3 (small nuclear ribonucleoprotein D3 polypeptide) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 22.

SNRPD3 (Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein Sm D3) is a protein encoded by the SNRPD3 gene in humans. It is a member of the small nuclear ribonucleoprotein core protein family and plays a crucial role in pre-mRNA splicing and small nuclear ribonucleoprotein biogenesis. SNRPD3 interacts with several proteins, including CDC5L, CLNS1A, DDX20, and Protein arginine methyltransferase 5.

SNRPD3 plays a critical role in pre-mRNA splicing, serving as a core component of the spliceosomal U1, U2, U4, and U5 small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs). These snRNPs act as building blocks for the spliceosome, a complex machinery responsible for removing introns from pre-mRNA and connecting exons to form mature mRNA. SNRPD3 is involved in both the pre-catalytic spliceosome B complex and the activated spliceosome C complexes. Additionally, as part of the minor spliceosome, SNRPD3 participates in splicing U12-type introns in pre-mRNAs. Furthermore, as a component of the U7 snRNP, SNRPD3 contributes to histone pre-mRNA 3'-end processing.

SNRPD3 is also known as SMD3, Sm-D3.
