SNRPD1

Description

The SNRPD1 (small nuclear ribonucleoprotein D1 polypeptide) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

The SNRPD1 gene encodes a small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) that belongs to the SNRNP core protein family. This protein is involved in pre-mRNA splicing.

SNRPD1 plays a key role in pre-mRNA splicing. It is a core component of the spliceosomal U1, U2, U4, and U5 small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), which are the building blocks of the spliceosome. SNRPD1 is involved in both the pre-catalytic spliceosome B complex and activated spliceosome C complexes. As a component of the minor spliceosome, it participates in the splicing of U12-type introns in pre-mRNAs. SNRPD1 may act as a charged protein scaffold to promote snRNP assembly or strengthen snRNP-snRNP interactions through non-specific electrostatic contacts with RNA.

SNRPD1 is also known as HsT2456, SMD1, SNRPD, Sm-D1.
