SLC4A10

Description

The SLC4A10 (solute carrier family 4 member 10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

SLC4A10 is a sodium/bicarbonate cotransporter that plays a crucial role in regulating intracellular pH. It exchanges sodium and bicarbonate for intracellular chloride, and can also act as a sodium/bicarbonate cotransporter independent of chloride efflux. This protein controls neuronal pH, contributes to cerebrospinal fluid secretion, reduces the excitability of CA1 pyramidal neurons, and modulates short-term synaptic plasticity. Additionally, it's essential for maintaining normal pH in retinal cells, crucial for vision, and likely mediates bicarbonate reclamation in the kidney's proximal tubules.

SLC4A10 is also known as NBCn2, NCBE.
