SLC39A3
Description
The SLC39A3 (solute carrier family 39 member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
SLC39A3 is a gene that encodes for a protein known as zinc transporter ZIP3. This protein is essential for zinc transport in the human body.
SLC39A3, also known as ZIP3, transports zinc ions (Zn(2+)) into cells from the extracellular space. It plays a role in regulating zinc levels within the dentate gyrus granule cells in the hippocampus and facilitates the reabsorption of zinc from breast milk within the alveolar lumen.
SLC39A3 is also known as ZIP-3, ZIP3.
