SLC37A1
Description
The SLC37A1 (solute carrier family 37 member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.
Glucose-6-phosphate exchanger SLC37A1 is a protein encoded by the SLC37A1 gene in humans. It resides in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and functions as a glucose 6-phosphate:inorganic phosphate antiporter, moving glucose 6-phosphate from the cytoplasm into the ER lumen while transporting phosphate in the reverse direction. Unlike its related protein SLC37A4, SLC37A1 doesn't seem to be involved in blood sugar control but appears to regulate phosphate levels in cow milk, impacting milk production.
SLC37A1 is also known as G3PP, SPX1.
