SLC27A3

Description

The SLC27A3 (solute carrier family 27 member 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

SLC27A3 is a gene that encodes for Long-chain fatty acid transport protein 3, a protein found in humans. The expression of SLC27A3 in melanocytic cells can be regulated by MITF.

SLC27A3 acts as an acyl-CoA ligase, utilizing ATP to convert long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) and very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) into fatty acyl-CoA. It also plays a role in regulating cellular LCFA levels by aiding in their transport across membranes.

SLC27A3 is also known as ACSVL3, FATP3, VLCS-3.
