SLC16A6

Description

The SLC16A6 (solute carrier family 16 member 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

SLC16A6, also known as Monocarboxylate transporter 7 (MCT7) or Monocarboxylate transporter 6, is a taurine-selective monocarboxylate transporter. It can associate with BSG/CD147 or EMB/GP70 ancillary proteins to facilitate the movement of taurine across the plasma membrane. This transport is independent of pH and sodium, and while it has a relatively low affinity for taurine, it is likely efficient for taurine transport in tissues with high taurine concentrations.

SLC16A6 is also known as MCT6, MCT7.
