SIPA1

Description

The SIPA1 (signal-induced proliferation-associated 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

SIPA1 is a protein encoded by the SIPA1 gene in humans. It is a mitogen-induced GTPase activating protein (GAP) with specific activity for Rap1 and Rap2, but not for Ran or other small GTPases. SIPA1 can inhibit mitogen-induced cell cycle progression if expressed abnormally or prematurely. It is located in the perinuclear region. Two alternatively spliced variants encoding the same isoform have been characterized.

SIPA1 is also known as SPA1.
