SFMBT1

Description

The SFMBT1 (Scm like with four mbt domains 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

SFMBT1 (Scm-like with four mbt domains 1) is a human gene encoding a protein with four malignant brain tumor repeat (mbt) domains. This gene shares significant similarity with the Drosophila Scm (sex comb on midleg) gene. The encoded protein may be involved in antigen recognition.

SFMBT1 is a histone-binding protein that participates in various corepressor complexes. It facilitates the recruitment of these complexes to target genes, leading to chromatin compaction and transcriptional repression. SFMBT1 plays a role in myogenesis by maintaining the undifferentiated state of myogenic progenitor cells through interaction with MYOD1. This interaction recruits associated corepressors and silences MYOD1 target genes. SFMBT1 is also a component of the SLC complex in germ cells, potentially contributing to spermatogenesis.

SFMBT1 is also known as RU1, SFMBT, hSFMBT.
