SERBP1

Description

The SERBP1 (SERPINE1 mRNA binding protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

SERBP1, short for plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 RNA-binding protein, is a protein encoded by the SERBP1 gene in humans. It has been shown to interact with CHD3.

SERBP1 promotes ribosome hibernation, a process that stabilizes ribosomes in an inactive state and protects them from degradation. It achieves this by associating with the EEF2/eEF2 factor, sequestering it at the ribosome's A-site, and promoting ribosome stabilization. Additionally, SERBP1 plays a role in regulating mRNA stability by binding to the 3'-most 134 nucleotides of SERPINE1/PAI1 mRNA, a region involved in cyclic nucleotide regulation of message decay. SERBP1 is also implicated in PML-nuclear bodies formation.

SERBP1 is also known as CGI-55, CHD3IP, HABP4L, PAI-RBP1, PAIRBP1.
