SEC23IP

Description

The SEC23IP (SEC23 interacting protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

SEC23-interacting protein is a protein encoded by the SEC23IP gene. It plays a role in protein transport from the Endoplasmic Reticulum to the Golgi Apparatus by interacting with COPII-coated vesicles. It shares similarities with phospholipid-modifying proteins, especially phosphatidic acid preferring-phospholipase A1. Overexpression of SEC23IP can disrupt the organization of the endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment and the Golgi apparatus, indicating its involvement in the early secretory pathway.

SEC23IP plays a role in organizing endoplasmic reticulum exit sites. It specifically binds to phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PI(3)P), phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI(4)P) and phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate (PI(5)P).

SEC23IP is also known as MSTP053, P125, P125A, iPLA1A, iPLA1beta.
