SCN4B

Description

The SCN4B (sodium voltage-gated channel beta subunit 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Sodium channel β-subunit 4, also known as SCN4B or Naβ4, is an auxiliary sodium channel subunit that can alter the kinetics of sodium channels. The protein is encoded by the SCN4B gene. Mutations in the SCN4B are associated with long QT syndrome. SCN4B might additionally function as a cell adhesion molecule.

SCN4B modulates the gating kinetics of sodium channels, leading to negative shifts in the voltage dependence of activation for certain alpha subunits. However, it does not influence the voltage dependence of inactivation. Notably, SCN4B also plays a role in regulating the susceptibility of sodium channels to inhibition by toxic peptides derived from venomous creatures like spiders, scorpions, wasps, and sea anemones.

SCN4B is also known as ATFB17, LQT10, Navbeta4.
