Description
The SCN3B (sodium voltage-gated channel beta subunit 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
The SCN3B gene encodes sodium channel subunit beta-3, a protein involved in the regulation of voltage-gated sodium channels. These channels, essential for nerve and muscle function, consist of a primary alpha subunit and one or more beta subunits. SCN3B, a member of the beta subunit family, influences the sodium channel's inactivation kinetics. Mutations in SCN3B have been linked to abnormal heart electrical activity.
SCN3B, a regulatory subunit for voltage-gated sodium channels, influences channel gating kinetics. It creates persistent sodium currents and exhibits a slower inactivation rate compared to beta-1 subunit.
