SCGB1D2

Description

The SCGB1D2 (secretoglobin family 1D member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

Secretoglobin family 1D member 2 is a protein encoded by the SCGB1D2 gene. It belongs to the lipophilin subfamily, part of the uteroglobin superfamily. It is an ortholog of prostatein, the major secretory glycoprotein of the rat ventral prostate gland. Lipophilin gene products are widely expressed in normal tissues, especially in endocrine-responsive organs. It is thought that human lipophilins function similarly to prostatein, potentially being regulated by steroid hormones and capable of binding androgens, other steroids, and possibly estramustine, a chemotherapeutic agent used for prostate cancer. While the gene was initially reported to be on chromosome 10, it is now understood to be part of a gene cluster on chromosome 11 that includes mammaglobin 2. SCGB1D2 expression is high in mammary tissue and is sometimes used to identify and detect disseminated breast cancer cells.

SCGB1D2 is also known as LIPB, LPHB, LPNB.
