SARAF

The SARAF (store-operated calcium entry associated regulatory factor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.
SARAF refers to a human gene that encodes a protein involved in regulating calcium levels in cells.
SARAF acts as a negative regulator of store-operated calcium entry (SOCE), a process that allows calcium ions to enter cells. By controlling SOCE, SARAF helps protect cells from becoming overloaded with calcium. When calcium levels in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are replenished, SARAF promotes a gradual inactivation of STIM-dependent SOCE activity. This likely occurs by facilitating the disassembly of STIM proteins, which are responsible for activating ORAI channels that allow calcium entry. This inactivation helps to ensure that the cell doesn't receive excessive calcium.
