RRP9

Description

The RRP9 (ribosomal RNA processing 9, U3 small nucleolar RNA binding protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

RRP9 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the RRP9 gene.

RRP9 is a component of a nucleolar small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particle (snoRNP) that is thought to participate in the processing and modification of pre-ribosomal RNA (pre-rRNA). It is part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, which is the first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, RRP9 interacts with various ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone, and ribosomal proteins. Together, they work to generate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements, and cleavage as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome.

RRP9 is also known as RNU3IP2, U3-55K.
