RRM1

Description

The RRM1 (ribonucleotide reductase catalytic subunit M1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

RRM1 is a gene encoding a crucial protein component of the ribonucleoside-diphosphate reductase enzyme, essential for DNA synthesis in dividing cells. It forms a pair with another subunit, working together to produce the necessary building blocks for DNA. RRM1 is located within a significant tumor-suppressor gene region (11p15.5), and alterations in this area have been linked to various cancers and developmental disorders like Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome. Its close proximity to the STIM1 gene on chromosome 11 also suggests a potential role in cellular signaling pathways.

RRM1, along with its partner protein RRM2, creates the building blocks (deoxyribonucleotides) needed for DNA synthesis.

RRM1 is also known as PEOB6, R1, RIR1, RR1.
