RPS25

Description

The RPS25 (ribosomal protein S25) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

RPS25, the human gene encoding for the 40S ribosomal protein S25 (eS25), plays a role in protein synthesis. The eukaryotic ribosome, responsible for protein synthesis, consists of two subunits: a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. RPS25 is a component of the 40S subunit, and it is essential for the proper function of this subunit. While RPS25 is not essential for general protein synthesis in some organisms, studies suggest its involvement in specific forms of translation, including those mediated by viral IRESs. Additionally, RPS25 interacts with other cellular proteins, such as MDM2 and CDC5L, suggesting a broader role in cellular regulation.

RPS25 is also known as S25, eS25.
