RPLP1

Description

The RPLP1 (ribosomal protein lateral stalk subunit P1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

RPLP1 gene encodes a ribosomal phosphoprotein that is part of the large 60S subunit of ribosomes, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis. This protein is analogous to the bacterial L7/L12 ribosomal protein and belongs to the L12P family. It is essential for the elongation step of protein synthesis. Unlike most ribosomal proteins, which are basic, this protein is acidic. The C-terminal end of this protein is very similar to the C-terminal ends of the ribosomal phosphoproteins P0 and P2. RPLP1 can interact with P0 and P2 to form a pentameric complex composed of P1 and P2 dimers and a P0 monomer. This protein is located in the cytoplasm.

This protein plays an essential role in the elongation phase of protein synthesis.

RPLP1 is also known as LP1, P1, RPP1.
