RPL31

Description

The RPL31 (ribosomal protein L31) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

The human RPL31 gene encodes the 60S ribosomal protein L31, which is a component of the large ribosomal subunit (60S) involved in protein synthesis. Ribosomes are cellular organelles that consist of two subunits: a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of RNA and proteins, with RPL31 belonging to the L31E family of ribosomal proteins. The protein is located in the cytoplasm. Increased expression of RPL31 has been observed in familial adenomatous polyps compared to normal tissues. There are multiple processed pseudogenes of the RPL31 gene dispersed throughout the genome. RPL31 has been shown to interact with BRCA1.

RPL31 is a component of the large ribosomal subunit, which is responsible for protein synthesis in the cell. (PubMed:23636399, PubMed:32669547)

RPL31 is also known as L31, eL31.
