RPL23A

Description

The RPL23A (ribosomal protein L23a) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

RPL23A is a gene that encodes a protein called 60S ribosomal protein L23a. This protein is a component of the large (60S) subunit of the ribosome, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis. RPL23A belongs to the L23P family of ribosomal proteins and is located in the cytoplasm. It is thought to play a role in mediating growth inhibition by interferon and has been identified as an autoimmune target in rheumatoid arthritis.

RPL23A is a component of the large ribosomal subunit, which is responsible for protein synthesis in the cell. It binds to a specific region on the 26S rRNA. RPL23A may also promote the degradation of p53/TP53 through the stimulation of MDM2-mediated TP53 polyubiquitination.

RPL23A is also known as L23A, MDA20, uL23.
