RPL10

Description

The RPL10 (ribosomal protein L10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

RPL10 is a human gene that encodes the 60S ribosomal protein L10. This protein is a component of the large subunit of the ribosome, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis. The ribosome consists of two subunits, a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. RPL10 belongs to the L10E family of ribosomal proteins and is located in the cytoplasm. While studies in vitro have shown that the chicken version of this protein can bind to c-Jun and repress its transcriptional activity, these activities have not been confirmed in humans. RPL10 was initially considered a candidate for a Wilms tumor suppressor gene, but further research has ruled out its involvement in Wilms tumor suppression. A chimeric transcript containing sequences from RPL10 and the laminin receptor gene was identified, leading to the name 'laminin receptor homolog'. However, RPL10 is not believed to encode a laminin receptor. Multiple transcript variants with different polyA signals have been observed.

RPL10 is also known as AUTSX5, DXS648, DXS648E, L10, MRXS35, NOV, QM, uL16.
