RNF217

Description

The RNF217 (ring finger protein 217) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

RNF217 acts as an E3 ubiquitin ligase, accepting ubiquitin from E2 enzymes and transferring it to specific target proteins. This process marks these proteins for degradation, and RNF217 specifically targets ferroportin/SLC40A1, an iron exporter. By regulating ferroportin degradation, RNF217 plays a crucial role in maintaining iron balance within the body.

RNF217 is also known as C6orf172, IBRDC1, OSTL, dJ84N20.1.
