RNF166
Description
The RNF166 (ring finger protein 166) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.
RNF166 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that promotes the ubiquitination of various substrates, playing a role in diverse biological processes including interferon production and autophagy. It is involved in the activation of RNA virus-induced interferon-beta production by ubiquitinating TRAF3 and TRAF6, and also contributes to the early recruitment of autophagy adapters to bacteria. RNF166 mediates 'Lys-29' and 'Lys-33'-linked ubiquitination of SQSTM1, leading to xenophagic targeting of bacteria and inhibition of their replication.
