RNF10
Description
The RNF10 (ring finger protein 10) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.
RNF10 is a human gene that encodes a protein containing a RING finger motif, which is known to be involved in protein-protein interactions. The exact function of this protein remains unknown. However, there is evidence suggesting multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants, but their full-length structure is still unclear.
RNF10 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that attaches a single ubiquitin molecule (monoubiquitination) to the 40S ribosomal proteins RPS2/us5 and RPS3/us3. This occurs when ribosomes stall during translation initiation (iRQC) or elongation. RNF10's action in iRQC is countered by the deubiquitinase USP10. RNF10 may also function as a transcription factor regulating MAG (Myelin-associated glycoprotein) expression, influencing Schwann cell differentiation and myelination.
RNF10 is also known as RIE2.
