RNASE4

Description

The RNASE4 (ribonuclease A family member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

RNASE4 encodes a protein belonging to the pancreatic ribonuclease family. This enzyme is involved in mRNA cleavage and is highly specific for uridine nucleotides, particularly at the 3' end. It is found intracellularly and in the plasma, with significant presence in the pancreas, saliva, and liver. RNASE4 shares a similar distribution pattern with angiogenin (ANG). Two transcript variants encoding the same protein arise from alternative splicing. RNASE4 and ANG are co-expressed and share the same promoter, with each gene splicing to a distinct downstream exon containing its complete coding region.

RNASE4 is also known as RAB1, RNS4.
