RFX4

Description

The RFX4 (regulatory factor X4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

RFX4 is a protein encoded by the RFX4 gene in humans. It belongs to the regulatory factor X gene family, which encodes transcription factors with a conserved winged helix DNA binding domain. RFX4 is structurally similar to other regulatory factors like RFX1, RFX2, RFX3, and RFX5. It interacts with itself and with RFX2 and RFX3, but not with RFX1. While it's suggested to be a transcriptional repressor, it may also act as a transcriptional activator. The gene has three transcript variants, each encoding different isoforms.

RFX4 is a transcription factor involved in early brain development. It activates transcription by binding to the X-box, potentially regulating the CX3CL1 promoter during brain development. RFX4 may also be essential for neural tube ciliogenesis during embryogenesis.

RFX4 is also known as NYD-SP10.
