REG1B

Description

The REG1B (regenerating family member 1 beta) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

REG1B encodes a type I subclass member of the Reg gene family. This gene family is divided into four subclasses (types I, II, III, and IV) based on the encoded proteins' primary structures. REG1B encodes a protein secreted by the exocrine pancreas. It is linked to islet cell regeneration and diabetogenesis and might be involved in pancreatic lithogenesis. REG1A, REGL, PAP, and REG1B are tandemly clustered on chromosome 2p12 and might have originated from the same ancestral gene through gene duplication.

REG1B is also known as PSPS2, REGH, REGI-BETA, REGL.
