RBPMS2

Description

The RBPMS2 (RNA binding protein, mRNA processing factor 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

RBPMS2 is an RNA-binding protein that plays a role in regulating smooth muscle cell differentiation and proliferation in the gastrointestinal system. It binds to NOG mRNA, a key inhibitor of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) pathway. By increasing NOG mRNA levels, RBPMS2 negatively regulates BMP signaling, promoting reversible dedifferentiation and proliferation of smooth muscle cells. RBPMS2 also acts as a pre-mRNA alternative splicing regulator, mediating alternative splicing of ACTN1 and FLNB. It likely binds to mRNA tandem CAC trinucleotide or CA dinucleotide motifs.

RBPMS2 is also known as -.
