RBM33

Description

The RBM33 (RNA binding motif protein 33) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

RNA-binding protein 33 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the RBM33 gene.

RBM33 acts as an RNA reader protein, recognizing and binding specific RNAs. This function allows it to regulate RNA metabolic processes, such as mRNA export, mRNA stability and translation. It interacts with specific subsets of intronless RNAs containing GC-rich elements, promoting their nuclear export by facilitating their interaction with components of the NXF1-NXT1 RNA export machinery. RBM33 also recognizes and binds mRNAs containing N6-methyladenosine (m6A), promoting their demethylation by ALKBH5. It functions as a molecular adapter, recruiting ALKBH5 to m6A-containing transcripts and enhancing ALKBH5's demethylase activity by promoting its deSUMOylation through SENP1 interaction.

RBM33 is also known as PRR8.
