RBKS

Description

The RBKS (ribokinase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.

RBKS catalyzes the phosphorylation of ribose at the 5th oxygen atom (O-5), requiring ATP and magnesium ions. This reaction generates D-ribose-5-phosphate, a molecule crucial for various metabolic pathways. D-ribose-5-phosphate can be used for the synthesis of nucleotides, the amino acids histidine and tryptophan, and as a component of the pentose phosphate pathway.

RBKS is also known as RBSK, RK.
