Description

The RBBP7 (RB binding protein 7, chromatin remodeling factor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

RBBP7 is a protein encoded by the RBBP7 gene in humans. It is a ubiquitously expressed nuclear protein and belongs to a conserved family of WD-repeat proteins. RBBP7 is known to bind directly to the retinoblastoma protein, which regulates cell proliferation. It is found in several histone deacetylase complexes, including the mSin3 co-repressor complex, and is also present in protein complexes involved in chromatin assembly. RBBP7 can interact with BRCA1, a tumor suppressor gene, and may play a role in regulating cell proliferation and differentiation.

RBBP7 is a core histone-binding subunit that helps guide chromatin remodeling factors, histone acetyltransferases, and histone deacetylases to their histone substrates. This process is regulated by the structure of nucleosomal DNA. RBBP7 is a component of several complexes involved in chromatin metabolism. These include the type B histone acetyltransferase (HAT) complex, essential for chromatin assembly after DNA replication; the core histone deacetylase (HDAC) complex, responsible for histone deacetylation and subsequent transcriptional repression; the NuRD complex, which promotes transcriptional repression by both histone deacetylation and nucleosome remodeling; the PRC2/EED-EZH2 complex, which represses homeotic genes during development; and the NURF (nucleosome remodeling factor) complex.

RBBP7 is also known as RbAp46.
