RASEF


Description

The RASEF (RAS and EF-hand domain containing) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

The RASEF gene, located on chromosome 9, encodes a protein called RASEF, which is also known as Ras-related protein Rab-45. RASEF belongs to the small GTPase family and has an unusual conformation. It is classified within the RAS domain, a group of oncogenes and oncoproteins involved in cell reproduction. RASEF is characterized by its N-terminal EF-hand motif and C-terminal Rab-homology domain, which allow it to bind calcium. RASEF has been studied for its potential role as an oncoprotein, and research is ongoing to investigate mutations that affect it and explore potential ways to inhibit its activity in cancers with high mortality rates, such as lung cancer.

RASEF predominantly binds to GDP and can also bind to GTP. It acts as a dynein adapter protein, activating dynein-mediated transport and promoting the movement of the dynein-dynactin complex along microtubules.

RASEF is also known as RAB45, TSG.
