RAMP2

Description

The RAMP2 (receptor activity modifying protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

RAMP2, or Receptor activity modifying protein 2, is a protein encoded by the RAMP2 gene in humans. It belongs to the RAMP family, which are single-transmembrane-domain proteins known as receptor (calcitonin) activity modifying proteins (RAMPs). RAMPs are type I transmembrane proteins with an extracellular N-terminus and a cytoplasmic C-terminus. They are essential for the transport of calcitonin-receptor-like receptor (CRLR) to the plasma membrane. CRLR, a receptor with seven transmembrane domains, can act as either a calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor or an adrenomedullin receptor, depending on the RAMP family members expressed. In the presence of RAMP2, CRLR functions as an adrenomedullin receptor. RAMP2 is involved in the core glycosylation and transportation of the adrenomedullin receptor to the cell surface.
