RALBP1

Description

The RALBP1 (ralA binding protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

RALBP1 (RalA-binding protein 1) is a protein encoded by the RALBP1 gene in humans. It interacts with several proteins, including: Cyclin B1, HSF1, RALA, RALB, and REPS2.

RALBP1 is a multifunctional protein that acts as a downstream effector of RALA and RALB. It functions as a GTPase-activating protein/GAP, inactivating CDC42 and RAC1 by stimulating their GTPase activity. As part of the Ral signaling pathway, RALBP1 regulates ligand-dependent EGF and insulin receptors-mediated endocytosis. During mitosis, it acts as a scaffold protein in the phosphorylation of EPSIN/EPN1 by the mitotic kinase cyclin B-CDK1, preventing endocytosis during that phase of the cell cycle. During mitosis, RALBP1 also controls mitochondrial fission as an effector of RALA. It is recruited to the mitochondrion by RALA, acting as a scaffold to foster the mitotic kinase cyclin B-CDK1-mediated phosphorylation and activation of DNM1L.

RALBP1 is also known as RIP1, RLIP1, RLIP76.
